Kaduna refinery petrol output rises to 3.2m litres daily

ABUJA — The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday, stated that Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, KRPC, has commenced production of 3.2 million litres of petrol daily, from an initial production of 1.5 million litres recorded over the weekend.

This was even as the NNPC stated that 914 truckloads of fuel have been dispatched to petrol stations across the country, while 1,939 trucks, conveying 64.04 million litres of the products, have been evacuated from its coastal depots to inland depots in the country.

N120m compensation: Our stand — NPAN

LAGOS — The Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN) has stated its position on the misrepresentations in the public domain, of the compensation paid to some media houses when their newspapers and circulation vans were impounded by security personnel between June 6 and 8, 2014.

In a statement issued, yesterday, and signed by the association’s Deputy President, Mallam Kabiru Yusuf and General Secretary, Dame Comfort Obi, it explained that the money was to compensate for huge losses which the media houses suffered as a result of the seizure.

ASP, 2 other policemen die in gun battle with alleged kidnappers

PORT HARCOURT— THREE policemen reportedly lost their lives yesterday when they went to foil an attempted kidnapping   of  the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Rivers State Chairman,  Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Jerry Needam.

Needam who disclosed this in a statement commended the gallantry of the policemen deployed to rescue him during the attempted kidnap and alleged assassination attempt  on his life.

He said one of the killed policemen was an Assistant Superintendent, ASP, adding that the policemen engaged the heavily armed  assassins in a fierce gun battle for several hours.

Needam accused his political opponents of being behind the alleged attempt on his life.

While expressing gratitude to God for sparing his life, Needam said two of ther policemen and his security guard sustained bullet wounds during the incident and were receiving treatment at a hospital.

A text to the state Police Public Relations Officer,  DSP Ahmad Muhammad from Vanguard for  comment on the issue had not been responded to at press time.

IGP approves promotion of 558 police school teachers

ABUJA — The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has approved the promotion of 558 teachers in police primary and secondary schools across the country.

Police sources disclosed that the promotion which takes immediate effect was meant to address the complaints among the teaching staff and also to motivate them to perform better.

According to him, the IG was interested in making police schools one of the best in the country hence the increasing investment in academic facilities and the teaching staff to ensure a high quality of students.The Director, Directorate of Police Education, DCP Kabiru Ibrahim, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists, yesterday, in Abuja, explained that the teachers would soon receive their letters of promotion.
