And on June 19, 1987, Nigeria piped the Aussies 1-0 at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard, Montreal. Christopher Nwosu’s 59th minute goal condemned Vic Dalgleish’s side to defeat as the Africans reached their second semi-final.

The Green Falcons held on firmly against Nigeria as game stood 0-0 after 120 minutes at Dens Park, Dundee. And during the penalty shootout, the Asians handled by Brazilian tactician Ivo Ardais Wortmann won 2-0 with Bobolayefa Edon, Sunny Umoru, Patrick Mancha and Chiedu Anazonwu missing their kicks.

At the Gifu Nagaragawa Stadium, Gifu City on August 29, 1993, the Golden Eaglets silenced hosts Japan in the fifth edition of the competition.
A first minute strike by Wilson Oruma and Festus Odini goal in the 40th minute helped Fanny Anum lads triumph over the Asians who got their solitary strike through Hidetoshi Nakata.
Nigeria went ahead to win their second title after victories against Poland and Ghana respectively in the semis and final.

Sebastian Broderick’s boys came into the game full of confidence having soared past Australia, Spain and Qatar to top Group C.
Chiedu Chukwueke had put Sebastian Broderick’s team ahead via a penalty in the 13th minute but George Sydney Smith’s team clawed back to win through Mohamed Al Kathiri and Hani Al Dhabat.

Musa Abdullahi’s Eaglets topped Group B after a brilliant run that saw them score eight times and conceded once. Against the Aussies, Femi Opabunmi’ brace plus Suleiman Mohammed and Temile Omonigho’s side powered the Eaglets to their biggest ever win in this stage though Mathew Engele pulled one back for Ange Postecoglou ‘s team at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet .

Enroute their third conquest in the Fifa U17 World Cup, the Golden Eaglets met Argentina in the last eight of the twelfth edition of the tournament.
First half strikes from Haruna Lukana and Chrisantus Macaulay gave Yemi Tella’s team an easy passage to the last eight at the Cheonan Baekseok Stadium.

Both teams had dismissed Mexico and New Zealand respectively in the round of 16 and a place in the last four was the bone of contention.
Son Heung-Min had equalised Ramon Azeez’s 23 minute strike before Abdul Jeleel Ajagun and Terry Envoh sent John Obuh’s team to the last four where they silenced Spain 3-1 but bowed 1-0 to Switzerland in the final.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal in each half gave Manu Garba’s side the win as they marched on to win their record fourth title.
